Bloomsburg Baseball Tops Susquehanna

BLOOMSBURG--Matt Robinson (York/ Red Lion) went 2-4 with two RBI and also pitched three scoreless innings to close out the game and gave the Bloomsburg University baseball team a 7-4 victory over Susquehanna University on Wednesday afternoon.
Bloomsburg got off to a quick 2-0 start in the bottom of the first inning. With one out and runners on first and third, Jeremy Eck (Williamsport/ Montoursville) drove in Kevin Ward (Upper Darby/ Monsignor Bonner) on a ground out to bring across the first run. Syri1 Kress (Littlestown/ Littlestown) then doubled to right field bringing in Robinson from second base. The Huskies added three more in the second after Robinson singled home two runs and Andy Bucher singled home Robinson to make it 5-0.
However Susquehanna rallied, scoring two runs in the fourth and another two in the fifth. Bloomsburg pushed across a run in the bottom of the fourth but their lead was cut to 6-4.
With the score still 6-4 in the top of the seventh, Robinson came in to pitch and recorded the final nine outs of the game to pick up the save. Robinson allowed just two hits and no runs in three innings pitched.
Ward was 3-5 with three runs scored and Josh Howe (Williamsport/ Williamsport) was 2-3 with a run scored. Bloomsburg got a combined effort from six different pitchers in the win. David Rute (Milton/ Milton), Michael Griggs (Jersey Shore/ Jersey Shore), Casey Markey (York/ Dallastown), Ryan Sanders (Danville/ Danville), Dustin Johnson (Shickelemmy/ Volunteer State), and Robinson all saw time on the mound.
The Huskies improve to 5-18 on the year, while Susquehanna falls to 5-10. Bloomsburg will be back in action on Friday when they travel to West Chester for a doubleheader.
